Life Cycle Balloon Adventures launches mainly from a site in East Boulder County, with alternates just east in Frederick, Firestone, Dacono and Erie when the wind calls for them. Directions arrive with the booking confirmation. Fair Winds flies mostly from sites around Boulder, chosen from current and forecast conditions, and asks guests to check its website or call for the day's site. Guests can also ask Fair Winds to launch somewhere else.
Visit Boulder describes hills, ponds, fields and groves across the Boulder Valley below, snowy Rocky Mountain peaks to the west and the plains to the east. Life Cycle covers roughly 5 to 10 miles, climbing for mountain views and dropping to treetop and river level, and its balloons seldom land back at the launch site. The Flatirons, tilted slabs of sedimentary rock along the foothills, stand west of the city.
Fair Winds meets at the launch site at times that shift by month. From May through July it is 5:45 to 6:00 am, in August and September 6:00 to 6:30 am, and in October 7:00 to 7:30 am, just before the clocks change. It asks guests to call between noon and 2 pm the day before to confirm the forecast. Visit Boulder says most rides begin around 6 am, when the air is stillest.
Fair Winds encourages guests to help inflate and deflate the balloon. Flights last 1 to 1.5 hours, closer to 1.5 on average, within a 3 to 3.5 hour morning. The crew and passengers ride in the chase vehicles, and friends who come along need their own car. After landing come a bottle of bubbly (champagne, sparkling wine or cider), a T-shirt, a balloon pin and a flight certificate with a photo.
Life Cycle launches just after sunrise, once its pilots have the morning briefing from FAA Flight Services, and plans 3 to 4 hours in all with 1 to 1.5 hours aloft. Its chase crew stays on the radio, meets the balloon at landing, helps pack up and drives everyone back to the launch site. A champagne-style toast follows the flight, with a non-alcoholic option on request.
Fair Winds lists May through November as its season, with the 2026 season running May 1 to November 30, and flies early mornings only, which it puts down to Front Range climate conditions. High winds and bad weather ground flights, and a weather cancellation moves to the next open date. Life Cycle says the area's climate suits scenic flights year-round but lists no months. When its pilot calls off a flight, passengers phone the office to rebook, with no penalty.
Boulder summers bring frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and chinook winds bring sudden warm spells in winter. The Erie Balloon Festival, presented by the Erie Chamber of Commerce, returns July 9 to 11, 2027, west of Erie High School at Weld County Road 5 and Colliers Parkway. Its field opens at 5 am, inflation starts around 6 am, and most balloons are aloft by 7 am. Admission and parking are free, and tethered rides cost $20 in cash.
Fair Winds lists $299 a person under an internet autumn special that runs through November 15, 2026; mention INTERNET SPECIAL when booking. Its standard rate is $399, and children 12 and under pay the same. Private or VIP flights are $800 a person. Balloons carry six to ten guests, and larger or private balloons are available. Fair Winds needs seven days notice to cancel or charges in full, and it says tips average 10% and can go on a card after the flight.
Life Cycle Balloon Adventures charges $350 per adult on a seasonal special sold as a non-refundable gift certificate (regular $425), and $1,200 for a private flight for two (regular $1,400). Each balloon takes 2 to 4 people, by weight, and a fourth is arranged by phone. A child needs enough height to look over the basket rim, about 3.5 feet. Life Cycle lets you change or cancel free more than 7 days out, charges $100 a person inside 7 days and keeps the full fare inside 48 hours.
